How to do Night Writes

Prompt:

Write about

At the beginning of each month a calendar will go home in your child's Monday folder.  These should be kept in a safe spot at home, but I will have additional calendars if it gets lost.

Students should brainstorm on Monday, either on paper or out loud with parents.   Then, in their Night Write journals, the students need to draft their paragraph.  (On each calendar is a monthly focus, for example: October paragraphs should be Personal Narratives)  After drafting students should ask for help from their parents, siblings, or another adult.  PLEASE help your child to REVISE and EDIT their paragraphs.  Things to help with adding figurative language, making boring words into WOW words, and help with punctuation/capitalization.

The final draft is due on Friday.  Students may choose to write out their final copy on STAAR paper which is available in my classroom or they may type out their Night Write and either print it out or share it with me.

If your child needs more time that Monday -Thursday to complete this assignment due to after school commitments, please email me and let me know. We can figure out a new due date for the Night Writes.
